Are psychics real? This can be a very controversial question that can elicit all kinds of answers. Most doubters are cynics. The mere mention of the word "psychic" in their presence will cause them to roll their eyes in dismay. They simply refuse to even take such a question seriously. On the other hand, there are many people who are true believers. Some even consult psychic readers regularly and don't feel comfortable making a major life decision without seeking their guidance in advance. First Lady Nancy Reagan was one such person. She frequently sought the advice of an astrologer by the name of Joan Quigley on behalf of her husband while he was actively serving as President.
So, are psychics real? Many people who ask this question are genuinely curious. To truly answer this question though, one first has to be willing to be open-minded and objective. Starting with the mindset of a naysayer or true believer really isn't very effective way to find the real answer.
From a scientific perspective, there is a lot of conflicting evidence that goes back decades. One recent study in particular though has raised a lot of eyebrows. In 2010, a well respected Cornell psychologist by the name of Daryl Bem ran a series of nine different scientific tests to determine if people (mostly students) were capable of possessing precognitive psychic abilities. In one of his tests, students were asked to predict the correct image from two randomly hidden images on a computer screen. Remarkably, the students as a group scored statically higher than they should have had they simply been randomly guessing. In Bem's other experiments, the students also demonstrated precognitive abilities that were statistically better than random guessing. When Bem's research was published even his staunchest critics had to admit that his testing methods stood up to peer review. They were also unable to find any alternative plausible explanations for the results.
It’s important to note that the people who participated in Bem's studies were just regular students and not professed psychics. Whether or not people who consider themselves to be actual psychics could score significantly higher than the students has not been tested.
There are many self professed psychics who are in fact fraudulent and this has resulted in psychics in general receiving a tarnished reputation. Sometimes a person can also truly believe they possess psychic abilities, but fail to demonstrate any real psychic aptitudes. The main problem is that there are no standards in place to test psychic ability. Furthermore, there are no standardized associations, licenses or bylaws that psychics must adhere to in order to be deemed authentic or real. Consequently, anyone can print a few business cards and call themselves a psychic.
If you are considering having a psychic reading, you will first definitely want to confirm that the psychic you select is legitimate. The most accurate psychics also tend to be the most successful. Their business relies on word of mouth and their reputation for reliability. Typically, poor or inaccurate psychics don’t manage to stay in the business very long. Even so, you still need to be careful to avoid fraudulent psychics who have learned how to mislead people into believing that they are real. They do this by knowing how to say all the right things people want to hear. Some people wind up spending hundreds upon hundreds of dollars just to feel better about their lives.
A legitimate psychic, on the other hand, should be able to provide accurate and valuable information that is pertinent to a person’s life. This may be about their past or present. A reputable psychic should also be able to provide guidance about a person's future.
When searching for a psychic who is reputable, be sure to ask for recommendations from people that you already know. They will always give you the best advice and feedback. When contacting a psychic, don’t be afraid to ask them for references. Any legitimate psychic will typically have no problem providing you with at least a few good references. Also ask them if they have a refund policy in the event you're not happy with the accuracy of their reading. A reputable psychic should also be willing to guarantee their work.
So, are psychics real? This is something you will have to answer by experiencing it for yourself.
